Conventional salt & pepper mills often create mess by leaving excess grounds on surfaces when placed down. The innovative design also does away with a long central spindle for the grinding mechanism, which increases its capacity and makes it much easier to fill. Best peppermill ever made - period. I have 3 of these. One at home, one at a rental and one as a spare should one of the other two ever decide to either break (I doubt it) or grow legs (at rental) and walk out (more likely than breaking). Peugeot mills are made to last. I guess you don't know how bad your peppermill is until you use a really good one. This thing doesn't clog and grinds pepper corns in a consistent "flow". The adjustments guarantee that if you want a fine grind , you'll find no big pepper chunks in it, but if you want chunks, it will give you that too. The adjustment for coarseness is precise and consistent. I have been using one of these almost daily (unless I'm lazy and don't cook that day!) for about 17 years... the same one, and am as happy with it today as I was on day one. Set includes 6-inch beech wood pepper mill with black matte finish and 6-inch beech wood salt mill with white matte finish. Pepper mill has 2 Stage grinding mechanism made of case-hardened steel which is specially treated to keep the teeth razor sharp and protect from corrosion. Salt mill mechanism is designed to resist corrosion from dry salts. To get the best out of your Peugeot salt grinding mechanism, you should use dry rock salt, with a max. diameter of 4 mm (0.16"). Not recommended for sea salt. Mills comes partially filled with rock salt for immediate enjoyment. Classic grind adjustment: turn the top knob tighter (clockwise) for finer grinds; looser (counter-clockwise) for coarser grinds. Made in France.
