The rectangular shape of this pan was inspired by the Japanese makiyakinabe pans that are used for rolled omelets called tamagoyaki. The rectangular omelet can be filled and rolled evenly and then cut into slices with an identical diameter. I absolutely love the Bobby Flay 12-inch cast iron skillet. I had used many a cast iron pan from a very popular brand that is made in Tennessee. This pan is similar in weight, and hence, heat retention for searing. But what sets the Bobby Flay by GreenPan series apart is the handles. The handles of the other brand are level and parallel to the top of the pan, as well as only being 5 inches long. The Bobby Flay cast iron skillets have handles that are slightly over 6 inches and are angled somewhat upward, which makes this pan so much easier to pick up. Also, the helper handles have enough space to actually get your fingers between the inside of the helper handle and the exterior of the pan without burning yourself.
