The item is made of all-natural American Black Walnut wood. Walnut sapwood is white and John Boos uses all of the wood. It's a tone color of the wood and the tone of the wood varies within the tree itself. Variations in the final product are not defects and therefore not covered under our warranty.

This 2-inch thick end-grain solid hardwood butcher block from is the ultimate companion for your culinary experience. Sized to fit perfectly and slide on the built-in ledges of your workstation sinks. In dual-tier workstation sinks, it fits on both the upper and lower tiers. End-grain means the board is made of short pieces of wood standing on their end (vertically instead of sideways). This gives a beautiful checkered finish and a cutting surface that is strong and durable. The surface is made of the fibrous ends of the wood and with every blow the knife slide between the wood fibers. This helps keep your knives sharper and makes your shopping pleasure. This cutting board was inspired by the original boos butcher blocks that were made from a solid piece of hardwood. their product is as close to nature as you can get and has a unique story. Each board is kiln-dried, with rustic edges and slight variances. You can even count the age rings. Some of their boards will have more grain than others; some will have knotholes and discolorations. All these features make each board beautiful, unique, and full of character just like they made them in 1887. Which one of their all-natural rustic-edge design cutting boards speaks to you.

Excellent cutting board. Good price. I was told I would receive the product on Saturday when I ordered the item. I was then told it would be delivered on Monday. Then I received a message that my account was frozen. I had to wait for a phone call to reopen my account and get my item delivered. I was told I had to sign for My item.
