It is exactly what I expected pertaining to functionality. The size is excellent and I really have a few empty spaces. It gives the room/space between the knives and I was able to put all of my steak knives in the block. I gave 4 stars not 5 because of the color. It is not brown at all, it is beige or tan and the picture displays a varied brownish color. There are no variations and I hope that I can stain it so it would be darker. The overall design is questionable and reflects a lack of imagination. In particular, the slot for the scissors is very awkward, and removing the scissors when there are knives in the slots above and below it is, at best, annoying. Also, if it is more sanitary and better for retaining life sharpness for the slots to be horizontal, why are the steak knives slots at the bottom vertical? I have been a loyal Wusthof purchaser for decades, and this is my first major disappointment. Perhaps I will have to shop around and look for a replacement block?
