Freshly steamed vegetables are a snap with the steamer basket. A simple press on the handle pops it up for added length, making it easy and safe to insert and remove the Steamer. Press the handle again to lock it down for compact storage. For extra reach, a fork can be inserted into the handle. The feet on the Steamer fold for storage and open up to 1¾'' so plenty of water can be used for steaming. I ordered this as a thank you gift for a client who lives in a loft with a small kitchen. He needed a large pan that could serve multiple functions - particularly grilling, since he can’t have a grill on his balcony. More importantly, it needed to work on his induction range. This fits the bill perfectly! I can’t speak to how it performs (and neither can he since he’s out of town for several more weeks), however, I can attest that it appears to be a very high quality piece of cookware! I removed it from the box to ensure it was in good condition and thumbed through the book. I think someone would really have to read the book to understand how to use all the components of this set properly and to get the most use out of this pan; there appears to be a lot it can do! There is also a DVD included but...who watches those anymore? I’m sure he can find the same video online. One thing that surprised me is that this pan is oval. It totally says that in the title, but I somehow missed it. Fortunately an oval pan will work exceptionally well on his induction range which has two burners that can be seamlessly connected, however, I’m not sure how this would work on a traditional gas oven with round burners. I would think it could be difficult to spread heat evenly on one round burner, or even when spanning two burners. 4 stars for the quality first impression + its multi-functionality! The steaming unit from the Staub Accessories series features a strong silicone seal and various holes on the surface to guarantee the optimum distribution of heat. The 10.2362" unit is made out of high-quality 18/10 stainless steel and can be used with the matching 10.2362" cocotte. The elegant kitchen aid will win you over thanks to the combined cooking possibilities - fry on the bottom and steam on the top. You can succeed in gently cooking vegetables using this handy steaming unit.

This is an excellent product. It fits the newest 5.5 Q (26mm) Cocottes. It does not fit the older 26mm cocottes. The cocotte was re-engineered very slightly to have an upwards taper. I would guesstimate this happened roughly late 2019. What is the difference? The old steamer sat about halfway into the pan. (See photo of OLD steamer insert.) This made it difficult to guess what amount of water to add. If too little was added the pan would boil dry, causing damage -- not good. The new steamer is just as sturdy but adds about 3 inches height to the pan (versus 1 inch) when the lid is put on top. This is much sturdier than I imagined and works just as well.. Ingyhere.
