This City at Night Lithophane 4.33" Novelty Light depicts motifs in precisely defined engravings and relief sculpture in translucent porcelain, with a finely judged focus effect, creating an abstract but still recognizable city scene with street lights and lights shining in windows. This use of the visual language of photography makes this a unique piece in the lithophane line. The design is engraved in a matte finish onto the translucent porcelain surface.
This table lamp is formed by a deep saucer and a bell-shaped piece with a chimney hole to let the flame breathe. When a lit candle is placed inside, the engravings are revealed thanks to the transparency of the porcelain.
It is inspired by one of the most important symbols of Sikhism, a monotheistic religion founded by Guru Nanak during the 15th century.
