The placemats were packaged very well. In my opinion I don't think they look like leather, but they do have a nice texture. The front and back seem slightly different in the texture. Well the hombre linen is spectacular...I love these napkins. The only thing that was a surprise is the online the trim around the edge looked beige...when in fact it is a metallic silver...not my favorite thing...but they work so beautifully with my china I am keeping them.
