It is likely they were produced for a commercial interior design firm intended for a hotel or elevator lobby. We call such rugs "lonely custom rugs" because while they did not work for the original customer or project, we hope they find a home with someone that will love them for what they are, gorgeous one-of-a-kind sizes of one of our best Walz designs. It's possible that the original customer decided they could not live without silk, or they needed the actual size to be larger. Tufenkian Tibetan all wool Lama Weave is preferred n high traffic commercial spaces. The pile height meets the under one-half-inch ADA requirement and Lama has also been tested for drag/resistance to wheelchairs, etc. Why two rugs? It's probably the plan was to use one and keep the other on hand to rotate when the first rug is being cleaned.
