While it is 9.5 inches wide at the top, the flat area in the bottom is about 6 inches wide. This, for me, is the perfect in-between fit because I like temperature control and our All-Clad pans stay hot for a pretty long time. This pan, on the other hand, is very responsive but still retains heat, so it hits the sweet spot in terms of size (not splashing all over the counter because the pan is pretty big), weight (because it feels a lot lighter than our equivalent All-Clad Copper Core), and responsiveness (in terms of turning down the heat or adjusting up and down as you're cooking multiple items in a frying pan). I can say that the pan seems very sturdy, well made, does heat quickly as stated in the advertising, and so far nothing sticks (fried chicken & potatoes, pancakes, reheated food). We really like our new fry pan. It is the nicest non-stick fry pan we have ever owned. We can cook long pieces of bacon along with eggs and potatoes at the same time.
