Gas stoves heat more of the kettle itself, allowing the heat to travel through the body of the kettle into the handle much quicker, eventually becoming too warm to grip without protection. We always recommend using a hot pad or other protection when lifting a hot kettle until you know how it responds on your particular stovetop.
