But I have two problems : first, there are no obvious markings on the boxes to distinguish the salt mill ( with ceramic grinder) from the pepper mill ( stainless grinder). Second, I could not figure out how to open and load the grinders. It appears that a Phillips screwdriver may be required to open. The Peugeot Madras collection 21 cm manual pepper mill combines a new filling system with U’select grind adjustment. An ultra-modern, beautiful and functional manual pepper mill. The Peugeot Madras pepper mill in a rich chocolate finish is an elegant combination of stained wood and stainless steel. The Madras mill features a very recent innovation: the removal of the central vertical shaft. Invisible from the outside yet essential for use, this system makes it much easier and quicker to refill the mill; simply remove the magnetic cover on the top of the mill. Peugeot’s patented U-select system makes the mill fully adjustable from fine to coarse or anywhere in between. And to top it all, the Madras mill in chocolate is equipped with the Peugeot pepper grinding mechanism.

Best peppermill ever made - period. I have 3 of these. One at home, one at a rental and one as a spare should one of the other two ever decide to either break (I doubt it) or grow legs (at rental) and walk out (more likely than breaking). Peugeot mills are made to last. I guess you don't know how bad your peppermill is until you use a really good one. This thing doesn't clog and grinds pepper corns in a consistent "flow". The adjustments guarantee that if you want a fine grind , you'll find no big pepper chunks in it, but if you want chunks, it will give you that too. The adjustment for coarseness is precise and consistent. I have been using one of these almost daily (unless I'm lazy and don't cook that day!) for about 17 years... the same one, and am as happy with it today as I was on day one. Cast iron is a great material for mortars and pestles with its density and longevity. The pouring spouts on the xl and l models are great for those wet rubs or marinades.

Just as described, and works as expected. Arrived quickly. The set is a little bigger than I thought it would be, but I don't consider that a bad thing. The finish is somewhat rough, as with most cast iron items. It needs to be placed on a pad or coaster so it won't scratch countertops. But this rough texture works very well for grinding herbs/seeds. The pre-seasoning seems to wear off a bit on the end of the pestle, but I've been drying it thoroughly and rubbing some oil on it after washing, and so far I haven't had any problems with rust.. Lorenza Bozzoli was born in Milan. She studied art at Brera where she qualified in the 80'. After early work experience as a fashion designer of shoes and accessories in New York where she lived for 3 years, back in Milan, she set up her studio in the inspiring area of Brera. In 2001 she did her first project for Alessi a table set in PMMA for kids with infinite possibilities of visual effects. She now works for various internationally renowned companies such as Alessi, Dedon, Moooi, Dilmos, Colè, Tato, Spazio Pontaccio, and Tog. She participated in many exhibitions in Italy (Triennale MI) and abroad (Cooper Hewitt NY) and many others. Winner of EESC European Award for Excellent Sustainable Design 2013 with Fedro chair for Dedon. She also taught to integrate trends into creative strategy at the IED ( Istituto Europeo di Design) and still lives and works in Milano in Foro Buonaparte 54. Gabriele Chiave was born to diplomat parents in Metz in 1978, Gabriele Chiave knows no boundaries. He lived in many cities and countries. These diverse resident experiences enable him to bring a global perspective to design like no other. He spent significant time at Marc Sadler studio and working with prestigious Italian brands such as Alessi. Currently serving as creative director at Marcel Wanders, this art aficionado and jazz lover oversees all projects in product and interior design, and art direction for a range of premium brands - passionately leading all to participate in the expression of beauty and technical simplicity to expand the human experience.
