Mortars have been used around the world for centuries, from Asia and Europe to the earliest populations of north and south America. The friction of the mortar's rough ceramic interior against the grinding action of the pestle releases the full flavor of herbs and spices, while also changing the texture and consistency of pesto and other dishes. The stoneware mortar & pestle is inspired by this age-old technique of careful preparation, with an unglazed interior that is abrasive enough to effectively break down contents, yet durable enough to withstand the friction of repeated grinding.

I love the size of this mortar and pestle. Now I can crush garlic and mix the salad dressing ingredients all in one spot. Plus it rounds out my set. Cynthia. Charlotte, NC. Mon Oct 15 2018

An avant-garde icon of revolutionary kitchenware, the Juicy Salif citrus squeezer—designed by Philippe Starck—transcends utility to become a sculptural masterpiece. Crafted from mirror-polished, durable aluminum, its biomorphic, spider-like legs provide an elevated clearance, allowing juice to flow directly into a glass placed beneath its tapered core. This unforgettable form was famously conceived by Starck on a pizzeria napkin during a seaside holiday in Italy, capturing a moment of pure, spontaneous genius. As much a centerpiece of modern art as it is a functional tool for lemons and limes, the Juicy Salif remains a provocative anchor for the contemporary kitchen.

Cast iron is a great material for mortars and pestles with its density and longevity. The pouring spouts on the xl and l models are great for those wet rubs or marinades.

Just as described, and works as expected. Arrived quickly. The set is a little bigger than I thought it would be, but I don't consider that a bad thing. The finish is somewhat rough, as with most cast iron items. It needs to be placed on a pad or coaster so it won't scratch countertops. But this rough texture works very well for grinding herbs/seeds. The pre-seasoning seems to wear off a bit on the end of the pestle, but I've been drying it thoroughly and rubbing some oil on it after washing, and so far I haven't had any problems with rust.. Unlike other pestles and mortars, this stylish design includes a reversible bamboo lid with several functions. Firstly, it helps keep the mortar clean and dust-free when stored on a counter or shelf and features a deep groove on the top to safely hold the pestle when not in use. When removed, the lid can also be turned over and used as a small chopping surface. The heavy-weight pestle and mortar are both carved from the same hard-wearing, natural granite, making them perfect for crushing garlic, grinding spices, pounding herbs, and making pesto and salsas. As this product is made from beautiful, natural materials, each item produced is unique.

Just recieved it looks and feels great. Looking forward to using it.. Charmaine. Bronx, NY. Fri Jan 24 2025

The Mortar and Pestle is designed to release the full flavor of herbs and spices to create pesto, spice rubs, dressings and more. The Le Creuset garlic keeper is ideal for storing bulbs and cloves of garlic, but it’s also great for roasting garlic and other root vegetables.
