Beautiful Vintage Paul Klee Ege Art Line Carpet Named Structural 1, Circa Date: Vintage. In 1938, Mads Eg Damgaard had a vision. He recognized that the world of art was changing, and interior design was closely following emerging trends. Ege art set out to redefine the way the world thought of rugs and their place in interior design. The Ege Art Line recreated many of the more popular works of modern abstract art for the floor. Artwork was no longer limited to the walls. The floor became a new canvas to be explored and developed by designers.
Doris Leslie Blau
This circa-1945 vintage pair of Swedish tapestry panels by Märta Måås-Fjetterström features an intriguing all-over design of strict geometric abstractions, with red and purple cross-like shapes dominating against a field of neutral gray. Bold, geometrically-themed red borders complete the look of the vintage panels. Maas-Fjetterstrom (1873-1941) was a leading figure in Swedish textile design, with a workshop known for producing well-composed rugs incorporating traditional Swedish and modern motifs. In Sweden, carpets in NYC and vintage rugs have been hand-knotted in wool for centuries, taking on many different forms and functions over the course of time. By the beginning of the twentieth century, the craft was seen as being an important artistic and cultural practice throughout Sweden, and designers began to make Scandinavian rugs that had a broad international appeal. Scandinavian rugs from the mid-twentieth century remain among the most desirable and sought after in the antique rug world.
