Constructed from wool on a cotton foundation, this rug’s main color is a soothing shade of blue that mimics the appearance of water. The wool used is a blend of Ghazni wool from Afghanistan and South African wool, creating a dense texture. The rug boasts a high knot density, with approximately 104 knots per square inch, translating to a total of 1,653,266 individually hand-tied knots, highlighting the meticulous craftsmanship involved. Final touch-ups and washing are performed in Jaipur, where both antique and modern finishing techniques are utilized. Chromium dyes are employed for their color accuracy and lightfastness. The rugs are woven by smaller contractors in villages around Jaipur and as far west as Bikaner. Weavers often work from home, being paid by the square meter, with larger rugs necessitating horizontal stationary looms. The asymmetrical Persian-type knotting technique used contributes to the unique ribbed texture that characterizes this collection. A double wefted foundation—thicker at the bottom and finer at the top— also differentiates these rugs. Visually, this rug's aquatic theme is highlighted by various stylized fish motifs, each featuring intricate patterns and vibrant colors like white, red, yellow, and green.
