This is a beautiful Beige & Sage Swiss Wash Hand Knotted Michaelian & Kohlberg Wool Rug. The wool not only adds to rug's durability, but also provides dirt repelling quality and thermal insulation. Swiss wash is a unique finishing treatment provided to rugs in Switzerland. It implies a thorough cleaning that removes all loose fibers and debris from the rug. The final product is a rug with a singular wool finish. The difference is comparable to the one between basic manicure and Shellac manicure. This rug rejects heavy ornamentation in favor of a simpler and more graceful contemporary look. Its elegant style is easy to decorate with and perfect for living room, dining room, bedroom or anywhere in the residence or office.About Michaelian & Kohlberg Rugs: Michaelian & Kohlberg have been a source of fine hand knotted rugs since 1921. Antique Chinese Deco Rug, Origin: China, Circa: Early 20th Century – Here is an exciting and appealing antique Oriental carpet – an antique Art Deco rug that was designed and woven in China during the early years of the twentieth century. Heavily informed by the aesthetic inclinations of the Art Deco period, this unique carpet is a compelling and thought-provoking example. A scalloped Purple encloses a Light Green sand field on this exquisitely subtle and restrained antique Chinese Art Deco. At first the field appears empty or open, but it is actually covered by a tone-on-tone design of scrolls and cloud-bands emanating inward from the outer edges. In their sinuous rhythms they echo the scalloped forms of the border and continue its visual effects across the carpet in a more subdued manner. This carpet testifies to the masterful design sensibilities of Chinese weavers as they made the transition into the modern world. The Art Deco movement had an outside influence on the world of art and design, and some of the most important qualities and characteristics of that movement may be found in this fine rug.

Vital and vibrant, this wondrous antique embroidered textile from Greece is alive with the cultural richness of folk-art traditions from a country famous for its illustrious civilizations and artisans. It has a linen foundation with wool embroidery. Sophisticated repeating figures and creative crewelwork designs create a stunning mutable pattern divided into directional segments that face a distinctive focal point. Mythical gryphons give way to a forest of meandering grapevines with leafy ornaments. Dramatic stags and geometric animals follow the botanical ornaments and lead to a series of colorful horses and riders that are followed by dancing people. Compound ram’s horns, which resemble recurving leaflets, and lozenge-shaped burdock symbols that become geometric flowers fill the decorative borders while hinting at the ancient origins of these familiar motifs that are part of a universal design language.
