This lovely vintage flatweave is equally beautiful and practical in a genuinely northern way. At first glance, one may see that the vintage carpet is deeply embedded into Scandinavian aesthetics which means that it builds upon simple geometric motifs, a pastel color palette, and the power of simplicity. It also stays true to the ideals of Scandinavian philosophy shaped in the mid-20th century which assumes that utilitarian objects should be possibly the most affordable, functional, and qualitative. The Swedish carpet’s main field is covered with an allover pattern of serrated rectangles in two sizes with gently outlined horizontal stripes and a trimming lace at the shorter opposite sides. The design is maintained in a sandy beige palette with variations in saturation, from very light to almost mustard. However, the design of this Swedish flat-woven antique carpet is not limited solely to the appearance but also encompasses usability. The Scandinavian carpet was masterfully hand-knotted of the finest wool in accordance with old and refined weaving techniques by a skilled artisan which allowed it to survive until this day without any signs of wear. The vintage carpet is reversible which even further extends its lifespan and ensures that it will serve its owners for generations. Such versatile composition is going to match all kinds of interior décors, from classic to modern.
Hand knotted in wool originating from Turkey circa 1960-1969, this mid-century vintage rug joins our midcentury Pasha Collection in celebration of Turkish icon Zeki Müren—among Josh’s hand-picked favorites from this period of iconic style. Connoisseurs will note this play of geometry and color idealizes the post-modern European influences Müren reimagined in his own work, largely unseen in Turkey in his industry before his pioneering work and connoting the joyful, warm sense of movement in this pallet of pink and black with complementary camel gold, burgundy red, blue, and green hues. The pile has been refined to a lower height similar to the appeal of a Kilim or flat weave of this era, bringing out the sense of Shabby Elegance, mild wear and distressed rug aesthetic, consistent with the age of this piece and the denominator of this fabulous, unique collection of mid-century rugs.

Art Deco is a style of visual arts, architecture, and design that first appeared in France just before World War I. The Art Deco movement led to a fast evolution of the rug and textile design, among other art forms. Rug design evolved from traditional floral and highly ornamental to a style of angular elegance with geometric, abstract, and modern figurative motifs. The design is frequently spare, geometric, and architectural. The rugs created during this period remain elegant and refined to this day.
