Vintage Portuguese Tapestry, circa date: 20th century. In this vintage piece, a wall figurative Portuguese tapestry rug, the viewer is treated to a blend of the abstract and concrete. Three figures sit along a grassy field, surrounded by billowing circles and squares in a variety of bright and vibrant colors. Green dominates the palette, but it is pleasantly offset with blue and red tones, broken up even further with a generous amount of sunny yellow. The man and the woman appear to be looking towards each other, and the meaning behind their languid expressions is left to the viewer imagination.
A beautiful square size carpet, blending of classic antique Oriental rug design with Western methods of production. Characterized by a classical Turkish Oushak rug design of palmettes and cloud-band vine-scrolls which float gracefully across the open persimmon ground of this elegant and richly decorative antique Irish carpet, this rare square size antique Irish Donegal rug is evocative of all those qualities most desired by Western consumers of Oriental rugs. A similar pattern of palmette vines repeats though the teal ground border of this piece, giving it a quality of profound balance. Though based on oriental patterns, the drawing and the coloration - especially the lovely mixture of persimmon, teal, and goldenrod tones are distinctly Irish recalling the taste of contemporary arts and crafts rugs and textiles.
Stunning 18th Century Antique Portuguese Needlepoint Arraiolos Rug, rug type: Portuguese Rugs, circa date: 18th Century. Portuguese Arraiolos needlepoint carpets have a history that goes back to the Elizabethan Era. This one was created in the 18th century and is an exquisitely preserved collectible antique. Portuguese needlepoint rugs consist of stitches embroidered onto canvas to create the design. This is a different technique from hand-knotted wool rugs that you typically see. This one has a regal character and a European country charm that is classical and fits into traditional decor.
