A Simplistic and Beautiful Earth Tone Vintage Vintage French Mid Century Modern Kilim Rug, Circa Date: Mid 20th Century - True to many other elegant Kilim rugs of its era, this mid-century modern area rug features a unique soft earth tone color scheme and a fascinating juxtaposing design theme. rendered in soft yet grounding earthy browns, crems and touches of blue, this flat weave rug is unique in its presence and its asymmetrical patterns. Different shades of brown are set against each other to create contrast and provide the viewer with plenty of motion to observe and explore. Hand-knotted in Turkey originating between 1960-1970, this vintage midcentury wool rug is the latest to join our midcentury Pasha collection, celebrating Turkish icon and multidisciplinary designer Zeki Müren with our team’s hand-picked favorites from this period. Idyllic of both Müren’s distinctly joyful, lively style and the midcentury Postmodern European influences to his work, the play of this eccentric, warm orange colorway with the accents in the geometry creates a unique and vibrant sense of movement and character seldom seen in this artist’s more symmetrical pieces. The mild, natural wear consistent with the age of this distressed rug also complements the approachable nature of this piece with a rustic charm that each of Müren’s pieces enjoys in their own distinct, individualistic variation; low, refined pile.

A modern mid-20th century Scandinavian carpet, the camel and vibrant red field with an abstract design of solid bold blue, black and yellow overlapping enlarged triangles. “Vintage” is a ubiquitous term frequently applied in the world of rugs and carpets. Vintage rugs are quite often confused with antique rugs. The difference between the two is often ambiguous. Just what is vintage and what is antique? To clarify this quandary, vintage carpets and antique rugs are defined by the time they were designed and crafted; they’re generally made after 1920. On the other hand, antique carpets come from a time before then, so, generally, they were made more than 80 years ago. Age is a primary distinguishing factor, but even this is a fluid one. The dividing line changes as time goes by. For example, a vintage rug will someday be an antique. Vintage carpets and rugs are often linked to the origins of Modernism, so they can be more accurately placed in this category, given the association with the cultural, philosophical, and artistic elements of this movement.
