This antique Sultanabad rug was woven during the late 19th century and features a traditional rust color palette as well as natural-inspired design elements. The most striking and vibrant aspect of this extra-large oversized rug is the bright rust color tone that is present in the interior design of the central field. The curving vine and leaf-inspired designs stand out against this rust color due to their creamy ivory and fresh green tones. These curving lines draw the eye along the rug, creating an eye-catching centerpiece that is added to by the presence of beautiful floral elements. The border of this magnificent antique rug is a darker color, making the cream-colored lines stand out in a bold and eye-catching way against this rich dark ground. The patterns in the border of this rust-colored Sultanabad rug are natural-inspired elements as well, with shapes reminiscent of leaves or feathers making their home among small flowers and lighter-colored vines. On either side of the border with the dark ground, there are two smaller stripes which each feature a pattern of their own. The addition of these secondary borders gives the rust-colored Sultanabad rug a dynamic feel as well as making it look extremely elegant. The two patterns within this antique oriental rug work together beautifully to create a stunningly elegant work of art.

Beautiful Antique Serab Persian Rug, Country of Origin / Rug Type: Persian Rug, Circa Date: 1900 – Serab carpets are revered for their colorful displays and unique tribal character. This magnificent example creates depth and character that would be the perfect addition to both formal and informal room designs. The village of Serab is a small community nestled in the Sabalan Mountains of northwestern Persia. They remained isolated and were cut off from participation in the trade that others located in more populated areas could participate in, which means that they did not have the influences of contact with other cultures. This allowed their designs to retain the traditional qualities and characteristics that make them unique without being transformed by the influences of commerce. Serab designs were influenced by the materials that they had available. This antique carpet was created around the year 1900. The designs were influenced by the tribes that surrounded them, but they were not influenced by the carpet weaving centers of the cities. This beautiful piece uses traditional motifs that have a distinctive stylized geometric quality. This Persian rug has an allover pattern based on large, complex repeating motifs. Of particular note is that the Serab would often use camel hair or blend camel hair with wool to create a range of browns. Sometimes these would be further dyed, and sometimes, they would be left in their natural color. This, combined with the blue that is unique to the area, gives this carpet and earthy feel that is characteristic of Serab carpets. This is a beautiful village carpet that could be used in a number of designs.
A stunning antique Turkish Oushak rug. Turkish Oushak carpets combine the bold colors and designs of carpets produced in the formal weaving centers with the symbols and traditions of tribal cultures. At the beginning of the 20th century, when this carpet was produced, these carpets found their way into the elegant dining halls and formal sitting rooms of Victorian homes. They added a rustic charm to the extravagant room décor of an earlier era. This carpet is based on a traditional medallion design that began to emerge in the Safavid Dynasty. The carpets created during this early time were intended for the palaces and public buildings of the courts. Throughout the years, they remained associated with sophistication and elegance. The brilliant colors of this Turkish carpet give it an elegant appeal that would make it the perfect addition to a formal setting. The brilliant red gives it vibrancy and liveliness. Yet, the creams, light blues, salmons, and soft grays give it balance and help to soften the effect. The formal symmetry of the designs is offset by the use of ancient tribal symbols and motifs. It is this combination of formal and informal elements that make Oushak carpets some of the most desirable in the world. This antique carpet uses a balance of warm and cool colors of the spectrum to create a piece that is colorful, yet harmonious. It uses a formal design structure with bold, angular motifs combined with tribal symbols to create a piece that complements both formal and informal design settings. This is a lovely piece that would go well in any room design from traditional to modern or Boho chic.
The tribal antique Caucasian Shirvan rugs are some of the finest and most sophisticated types of antique Caucasian rugs of the tribes of the Caucasus Mountains. This Shirvan rug features a recognizable diagonal stripe pattern that will add color to a Boho Chic or tribal room design. This gorgeous piece was created around the turn of the 20th century and is an excellent way to add a touch of color to your room. One of the features that gives Caucasian Shirvan rugs their charm is the inclusion of “secondary” motifs tucked into the design so that they are almost hidden unless you look close. As demand for these captivating antique rugs grew, and productions increased, these little nuances disappeared. But this magnificent example still has them, even though many of its counterpart area rugs no longer included them. One example of this is the little animal tucked into the left-hand edge of the boteh band. You will also notice that several of the dots in the center of the band are not dots but appear to be letters or writing. These little nuances are what give Shirvan rugs their character and are one of the reasons for their popularity.
