Hand-knotted antique polonaise rug description: originating from India circa 1890-1900, this antique rug connotes a transitional rug design, both celebrated among the most sought-after lineages of antique Indian rugs and seldom seen in this large size with such comfortable colorways. On the design: The subtle accent in the field and border brings out the curvaceous, graceful sense of movement this particular antique rug exemplifies among the renowned traits of its family; playing naturally with the equally subtle peach accent in the notes for a skillful negotiation between subdued beauty and intricate, elegant aesthetic. On the condition: In good condition, with only mild, muted wear in the field consistent with the age of this piece. Well suited in size and sensibility to main dining rooms, main living rooms, grand halls, and similarly discerning projects welcoming a near palace sized rug of this quality.

Inspired by an 18th-century Spanish pattern, this modern wool and silk rug features a Catana design, characterized by an uncommon combination of large-scale repetition and a unique border. Hand-knotted in high-quality wool and naturally shining silk, the green desert floral Catana emblem repeats in four distinct rows against the deeper beige background, both colorways playing into an immersive reference to the desert. Unique to this design, also, is the presence of a wrapping border intercepting one side of the vertical motifs for a dimensional, entirely individual modern portrait, a seldom-seen feature emboldening the finesse of this area piece.
Hand-knotted in high-quality wool originating from Turkey in 1870, this antique Kayseri rug enjoys an inviting, luminous shade of beige complementing more vibrant golden-yellow and blue accents, balancing the visual gravity of the central mihrab design with the intricate, vivid series of floral borders complementing this piece’s spacious body. One-sided, non-reversible design.
Nazmiyal Collection
Here is a beautiful woven and comely antique rug, an antique Suzani embroidery, woven in Persia nearly four hundred years ago, during the seventeenth century. Profoundly beautiful and remarkably preserved for its age, this 17th century embroidery is both an alluring and culturally significant work of art. Grand ecru palmettes and delicate floral sprays create a classical arabesque that is divided by a series of diagonal strap work bands. The softly oxidized floral motifs are set over a robust blue background that highlights the intricately detailed arabesque. Regal borders embellished with large-scale vine scrolls and dainty guard bands contrast the ornate botanical motifs featured within the stately field. Verdant foliage, lush blossoms and dainty florets adorn the regal borders, which feature mitered intersections. This unusual antique Safavid textile combines the characteristics of a traditional arabesque with unusual strap work accents and mitered borders rendered in a timeless color palette that includes deep Prussian blue, ecru and subtle flesh-tone accents. Beautifully woven, this 17th century Persian textile is an exceptional example and an important work of art.
Originating from India in 1890, this antique Agra runner enjoys a rich central border in burgundy and blue colorways accenting the beige and pink fields and medallions throughout. Hand-knotted in a durable wool pile, the expansive medallion field design is perfectly mirrored within the curvilinear background, complementing iconic Agra sensibilities of symmetry and marrying rich and vibrant colors for an inviting, spacious piece.
Hand-knotted in wool originating from Turkey circa 1880-1899, this antique rug connotes a 19th-Century Oushak design with a visible influence from 19th-Century polonaise rug designs of acclaim; a distinctive family is known in part for this style of unfolding curvilinear field pattern. The richness of the pallet cannot be understated, most likely hand made for the French market among our principal Josh Nazmiyal’s personal selection of European-influenced Oriental Rugs with a finer weave than typical Oushak rugs enjoy; the grandeur and whimsy of this play of gold, pink, orange-brown and blue bringing the refinement and intricacy of the pattern to life in a distinguished manner. A welcomed 19th-Century rug joining the Antique & Vintage rug collection from Rug & Kilim. About the Collection: Antique rugs have been in Josh’s resume since he began in the industry almost 40 years ago when he was already recognized for one of the largest oriental rug collections in the United States. Each piece in the internationally recognized volume was hand picked for rarity, and of course aesthetic and beauty, now complementing one of the widest varieties of the Persian rug and Turkish rug collections with the utmost attention to individuality and care. Because of Josh’s position in the wholesale rug industry he’s been responsible for promoting a number of collections throughout history, from breathtaking signature Tabriz, Sultanabad, Kerman Lavar, Agra, and Oushak classics to the more unsung jewels of the luxury industry. Vintage has also been synonymous with who we are since our beginning, particularly for our unparalleled Kilim collection, but with the rise of Mid Century collection the term vintage carpet has become very popular—especially exciting because often times many of the vintage carpets have also been treated, washed, dyed over, sheared, and modified—and has created a very successful category. We’re especially very proud of our vintage Kilims and Turkish rugs curated for our expansive collection of both area rugs and runners alike. Rug & Kilim maintains our own facilities for cleaning and restoration exclusively for carpets we’ve sold to ensure their lasting beauty and care long about a piece leaves our collection.
Hand-knotted in wool originating from Turkey circa 1880-1900, this antique rug connotes a regal rug style—prized among the most venerated classic weavers of the period for distinguished creations like this large-size, regal medallion pattern in equally handsome colorways and good condition. On the design: This particular play of prevailing, rich accents lends a depth and tasteful distinction to the intricacy, boasting a brilliant symmetry and sense of movement complementing the soothing tones of and the exceptional scale alike. Well suited in its size and majesty to a wide array of projects, particularly main dining rooms welcoming a classic rug both sophisticated insensibility and iconic in its origins.
