Verner Panton was one of the most influential designers of the mid-20th century. He studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. From 1950-1952 he worked for the famous Danish architectural design firm, Arne Jacobsen. However, the relationship between Panton and Arne Jacobsen would be a troubled one.
Composed of teal squares in center-radiating gradient shades, this textile exudes the optimistic and dynamic style that is the signature of famed Dutch designer Verner Panton. In seven rows of three squares, squares that are opposite arrangements of light and dark shades sit next to each other, creating both crisp juxtapositions and subtle gradations. Like many of Panton’s mid-century modern designs, this textile conjures three-dimensional space in a two-dimensional plane and seems to radiate a pulsing energy.
