Featuring a beige background uplifting geometric vine patterns—bearing a strong resemblance to the islimi curvature—the prevailing color palette includes beige, black, red, and green. Within each of the oval designs and diamond shapes created by these green vines, there sits a tulip-like flower, which comprises a horizontal mirror image of itself in a deep red hue. A mid-century red, black, and gold piece from the Konya region of Turkey, this geometric vintage wool rug features many intricate details with a lot of color and character—hand knotted in wool originating from Turkey circa 1950-1960. The transitional piece features four squares in its center nodding to medallion-style patterns, each with three designs celebrated by the pile pieces of the Konya region in this period. Top and middle squares rely on a red and gold background, while the second and fourth set on beige and gold. Three borders contain the center design, with all featuring florals. The first is set on a black background with small flowers in white, red, and brown. A middle border features larger flowers, each of which boast petals of different colors. The final border features flowers of a similar size to the first, but they are set on a beige background and accented with little squares. This 5’2 x12’3 vintage Konya rug should be featured prominently within a foyer to cherish its unique intricacy and emphasis of rich, regal colors departing from the typical, more vibrant tribal hues known in this region.
