Possessed by an ephemeral beauty, this impressive textile shimmers throughout its lovely composition of gracefully drawn floral elements. A simple composition, this antique Indian textile consists simply of a subtly decorated and narrow border of gold, and a long and narrow field. The gold on gold detailing in the border is sufficiently low-contrast as so the border itself superficially appears to consist of a solid band gold. Within the field, however, a wide range of contrasting colors may be found. Here, fair shades of purple are swirled together with oranges, yellows, blues and whites in a vivacious floral pattern. Throughout the field, winding vine scrolls of various lengths unfold in an exciting and unpredictable pattern, blossoming into sumptuous floral details at every turn. A delightful antique textile, this metallic and silk piece from nineteenth century India is a truly moving and exciting example.
