Turkey is worldwide famous for its outstanding weavings, whose origins reach back centuries. This modernist kilim shows that the country’s craft keeps up with the times. Traditional in terms of execution but modern design-wise, the Turkish rug represents the ultimate quality that will never go out of fashion. The field of the rug was made of separate pieces of fabric sewn together – the visible seams add to the charm of the overall, a bit lax composition. The geometric design is slightly shifted due to which the kilim looks homely and authentic. On top of that, the color palette, composed of extinguished earthy tones including taupe, shades of gray, mélange gray, and black, is versatile and elegant, ready to match a wide variety of decors. In addition to its great appearance, the piece was masterfully executed – handmade of the finest wool by a skilled artisan. Kilims do not have a pile, thus this makes them more durable compared to piled carpets. Provided minimum amount of care, this Turkish kilim will withstand many years of service bearing no signs of wear whatsoever. Doris Leslie Blau carries an exceptional collection of original modern rugs in many styles and materials. Contemporary hand-made rugs are a bridge throughout history, they are the fruit of the constant evolution of the weaving craft that has accompanied men since the dawn of civilization.
