The Anatolian plateau is where the weaving of oriental carpets originated. Rich in tradition and pride, each of the villages of the area produced a certain design and colors that the neighbors rarely copied. These antiques were largely illustrated in historical European paintings. Their bold geometrical designs and soft colors made them favorites of interior designers.

Kilims and hand-knotted rugs without the pile. Knotted by tightly interweaving the warp and weft strands to produce a flat surface with no pile. Generally knotted on horizontal looms, this technique produces crisp geometrical designs. Being lighter in weight and softer to the touch than traditional pile carpets, Kilims were also used as sofa covers, drapes, pillows, table covers, and wall hangings as tapestries and insulation from the extreme cold.

From a venerated multidisciplinary Turkish designer, a 3x6 vintage runner of the 1960snow joining our Mid-century Pasha collection. Exhibiting a very contemporary take on Deco sensibilities, the sketch sits fabulously in teal blue-green and off-white on gray adorning a classically inspired floral pattern further complementing the distressed textural element for an iconic shabby elegance vibe. A soothing piece, in otherwise good condition for its age and low-sheared wool pile inherent to this pedigree.
This vintage runner is an exciting new addition to Rug & Kilim’s Mid-Century Pasha Collection. This line is a commemoration, with rare curations we believe to hail from multidisciplinary Turkish designer Zeki Müren. Hand-knotted in wool circa 1960-1970, this rug marks one of Müren’s mid-century interpretations of Art Deco rug styles. Its field is beige with cream notes, and its geometric patterns enjoy a range of green, gold, and black hues. Connoisseurs will admire Müren’s talent for recapturing this iconic style in his own way—particularly with a sense of attitude and presence. Further on the Condition: This mid-century Art Deco runner is in good condition with full pile—a rare find among Müren’s works curated today.
