As perpetually fashionable as it is collectible, traditional Heriz luxury handmade rugs are skillfully woven in vibrant colors and emphatic geometric designs. The Heriz district of NW has been weaving carpets for over a century, with geometric designs and tonalities ranging from mellow to saturated. Medallion layouts are by far the most common, but semi-stylized versions of classic allover oriental patterns are found. Blues range from navy to powder and reds go from tomato to buff. The foundations are cotton, and the knots are always symmetric (Turkish). This Heriz has a character all its own and will become a natural focal point in any setting, traditional or modern decor.
Oushak's are known for their soft palettes combined with eccentric drawing. Oushak in western Turkey has the longest continuous rug weaving history, stretching back at least to the mid-fifteenth century. It has always been oriented commercially, supplying rugs and carpets, from scatters up to enormous mansion sizes, to both the Turkish/Ottoman domestic markets and to exports into Britain, and America. The best-known family portrait of George Washington has an Oushak beneath the founder and his family. Does not get more esteemed than that. Of course, vintage carpets have constantly changed as tastes, trends, styles, and markets evolved. In the late 19th/early 20th centuries. Persian or Persianate patterns were adopted, and dimensions were mutated into Western room sizes.

Gabbeh rugs are made by the nomadic Qashqai tribes of southern Iran. They are rough cut and long piled rugs of rich color and best quality wool. They are sometimes referred to by the heritage of the specific tribe by which they are woven, such as “a Lori rug,” or by the name of the city in which they are most often traded, such as “a Shiraz rug” or “a Shiraz Gabbeh.” The word “Gabbeh” literally translates to “in the rough,” and it is an accurate description of this style of Persian rug. Gabbeh carpets are woven on makeshift ground looms constructed both of materials that are kept and hauled for long distances by the nomadic tribel, and also of materials that are found at each site where the tribe sets up camp. Due to the fact that part of the loom must be found at each site, a wide variety is introduced. Thus, these rugs are usually somewhat irregular in shape. But, for what they lack in perfectly uniform shape they more than make up for in character, durability and uniqueness.
