Kilims and hand-knotted rugs without the pile. Knotted by tightly interweaving the warp and weft strands to produce a flat surface with no pile. Generally knotted on horizontal looms, this technique produces crisp geometrical designs. Being lighter in weight and softer to the touch than traditional pile carpets, kilims were also used as sofa covers, drapes, pillows, table covers, and wall hangings as tapestries and insulation from the extreme cold.
This vintage 3x6 runner is a new addition to Rug & Kilim’s commemorative Mid-Century Pasha Collection. This line is a commemoration of rare curations we believe to hail from multidisciplinary Turkish designer Zeki Müren.Further on the Design:This distressed piece remarks Müren’s diverse blend of influences that became his mid-century take on Art Deco rugs. The design enjoys a geometric pattern in beige with slate, red, and teal-green notes in mosaic-like fashion. Keen eyes will admire a more traditional border with floral patterns, further lending to this collectible’s unusual, rustic charm. This is a rare mid-century curation, and furthermore an exemplar of Müren's unique traditional-meets-modern sensibilities ahead of his time. Further on the Condition:Further enjoys otherwise good condition for this shabby elegance lineage and its low-pile element. Hand-knotted in wool circa 1960-1970.
A vintage 2x4 Persian Gabbeh rug in the latest entry to Rug & Kilim’s curation of rare tribal pieces. Exceptional Gabbehs like this creation are known for thick, lush pile, vibrant modern colors and archaic geometric patterns. An exemplar of rustic charm and folk art as much as handmade rugs, with versatile size and vast design applications. In good condition for its age and origin.
