Currey & Company
Ian Thornton designed the Mithra brass table lamp with its powerful brutalist profile. The cast aluminum lamp has all of the attributes that make foundry pieces so special, such as the drifts of stippling on the metal's surface. The antique brass finish highlights the texture to bring the gold lamp the feel of a vintage piece. Thornton was inspired by a mid-century modern sculpture when he designed the Mithra. The honed granite base and the off-white shantung shade are clean-lined elements that leave the sculpture to shine.
Stunning and elegant, the jade & brass mini cylinder lamp is crafted of solid jade stone, fitted with natural brass hardware, and topped with a tall natural linen drum shade. This sculptural lamp lends itself to a variety of settings, making it a versatile option for the living or bedroom, or in pairs atop side tables flanked on each side of a sofa.
This lamp is well made, but the base had almost no coloration in it as is shown in the picture. Both lamps were mostly white with some light yellow undertones, but there were no distinct gold and orange tones as shown in the picture. If we had seen these in person probably would not have picked them. The Sea urchin green table lamp is made by a group of elderly women who live at the border of Burma and Thailand. The black terracotta lamp has a moss green reactive glaze and extrusions, each applied by hand to the side of the body, that mimic a sea urchin's profile. This green lamp is truly an artisanal piece, as the surface has a mottled look that gives the impression it has spent time underwater. We offer the Sea Urchin as a vase, as well.

The bases of the Tortoise drum lamps are constructed of thick sheet iron. Once completed, they are given an acid bath which produces a random, pitted texture in the metal which is enhanced by the antique brass finish. Bronze-finished metal shade. Antique brass base.
