We love the whimsy of the rectangle lucite zebra tray. The Scalamandre zebra pattern in the color of blue denim is your fun serving tray and/or gift for the adventurer in us all. A little background history: In 1945, Flora Scalamandre was asked by a friend in New York, Gino Circiello, who was opening a small restaurant to develop a fun, animated wallpaper for his new restaurant Gino's. He fell in love with the whimsical repeat of the prancing zebras that she presented to him. The motif was instantly put into repeat and printed on wallpaper in the color of the rich marinara sauce. It's still a hit today! Scalamandre offers patterns in fabric and wallpaper in multiple colors.

A little background history: Originally designed in the 1940s for the Gino of Capri restaurant, lovingly known as "Ginos" by New Yorkers, Scalamandre restored the Zebras wallcovering in the upper east side institution in the 1970s after it was destroyed in a fire. Flora Scalamandre, wife of Franco, free-handed the signature motif that would come to be known as the iconic Scalamandre zebras. The pattern is celebrated the world over in design and in the movies. It was featured in the "Royal Tannebaums" and "Mighty Aphrodite." The pattern design has grown in color offerings and mediums.

Absolutely beautiful tray. It is really a piece of art. It's on my modern white and grey marble coffee table. I can't see myself covering up the unique artwork with anything! (placing anything in the tray) The print doesn't quite go with my modern abstract wall art, but serves as a fun and historically nostalgic print with interesting color added. love it!!. Mary.
