Michael Aram
The collection is inspired by the liveliness and vitality of the Japanese flower as it blossoms each spring. Embodying the ideals of renewal, Michael is captivated by the intricate nature of the flower and the symbolism that it holds. Representing fragility and the beauty of life, the Cherry Blossom collection combines soft, muted pink tones with golden brass and white marble to add a delicacy that exhibits the pure beauty of nature. "I have always been fascinated with the Cherry Blossom and its symbolism in the cycle of life. I find the ephemeral beauty of the blossoms and the way they burst into bloom, however fleetingly, truly inspiring."
The Orchid collection celebrates the ethereal spirit of the orchid plant. Symbolic of purity and grace, this collection captures the delicate nature of orchids while also expressing a quality of mystery and sensuality.
This collection is inspired by anemone flowers, which in some cultures are said to bring good luck and offer protection. The flowers are associated with purity and peace.
The Olive Branch collection is one of the best-known and most loved of Michael's motifs. The simple forms create objects that serve wonderfully as stunning individual gifts or an exuberant table setting that decorates an entire moment of your life. The theme itself captures all the most distinctive aspects of Michael's work - narrative strength, deep symbolism, and extraordinary sculptural expression. "The olive branch has always held a powerful meaning for me representing both peace and victory. In designing functional objects with natural forms, there is a mingled sense of fragility and intensity. For me, it is like nature spreading through my interior spaces - like a magical olive grove sweetly willing its way into my home."

The collection celebrates the representation of flora as fauna. Michael's fascination with a particular type of ginkgo tree, the Ginkgo Biloba, or "Butterfly Ginkgo", which grows with a double leaf reminiscent of a butterfly's wings, gave rise to a fantasia image of the plant. Executed at the highest level of handcraftsmanship, each piece is rendered in solid brass with hand-etched cocoon-shaped vessels. The pieces in the collection are a tour de force of the handcrafted process, capturing the poetic spirit that is so deeply indicative of Michael's work. "The first time I saw this tree, it looked like it had been completely overtaken by butterflies... as if they would all take flight the moment I walked too close or made a noise. The idea that the leaves could evoke the beauty of butterflies was magical to me, like trees that can metamorphose from flora to fauna in the blink of an eye."
The Calla Lily collection is inspired by the beauty of the Calla Lily flower. The architectural, curving shape of the flower is strong, yet suggests an intense sensuality. The flower is associated with weddings as is symbolic of purity and innocence. "I was thinking of the romance of weddings and how bouquets often use flowers that carry symbolism. I remembered a picture of a woman I had seen holding her bouquet of calla lilies. She was classic, timeless, and modern all at once. There is something so alluring about the billowy flowers and arching stems which feel contemporary, yet still utterly romantic."

The Michael Aram white orchid collection illuminates the ethereal spirit of the orchid flower. Evocative of purity, delicacy, femininity, and grace, the white metal version offers a strikingly different appeal than its black counterpart. While the sculpture is just as exuberant and detailed, in white, these flowers take on a simplicity that is completely unique. There is a sense of lightness, freshness, and even innocence - each petal seemingly untouched and pure. "Orchids naturally emit a sense of sensuality and seductiveness, but in white nickel, they take on a completely different meaning - an element of brightness that I associate with new beginnings. When I think of white orchids, I imagine the purity and sweetness of a newborn child or a newlywed couple at the beginning of their lifelong journey."
The Vintage Bloom collection evokes a sentimental interpretation of nature as inspired by Michael's love of old botanical prints. The mixed metals and delicate enamel finishes capture a sense of nostalgia for the eclectic glamour of the 1940s.
