They have classic half-round pharmacy shades which are mounted to a cylindrical metal stem with a differentiated stepped detailing. The picture lights have an architecturally inspired medallion where the arms mount to the rectangular backplate.

Disappointed. I ordered two of these lamps, one arrived damaged (looked like a poorly repacked return). The replacement lamp arrived with some minor scratching. As one previous reviewer mentioned, the brass is pretty orange, but looks better lighted. Adjustable height is a bit difficult to maneuver.
