The House of Scalamandre
Inspired by our hand-block printed fabric, Kelmscott Wallcovering's charming scenic design of English country life is freshly interpreted as a digitally printed grasscloth and rescaled for the story to read vertically for a wall-friendly layout. Its whimsical and scenic all-over pattern makes it a great option for libraries and bedrooms. This early twentieth-century design was discovered in an English archive including the original wood blocks cut in July 1924.
This captivating collection, created in collaboration with The Met, draws on artworks and objects from across nine of The Met’s 17 curatorial departments to create a rich mosaic of historical narratives. Each design is a celebration of artisanship, inspired by exquisite forms and cultural traditions. Following our first collaboration with The Met in the 1970s, we bring museum magic into the home once again in homage to history and the grand beauty of art.

In this woodland scene, a rich wildlife habitat emerges in The Stumpery, an atmospheric garden inspired by the Victorian tradition of growing ferns from upturned tree stumps—a gardening concept that ensures nothing goes to waste. Home to mysterious figures and sculptures, The Stumpery design includes a classic temple built from green oak, a thatched treehouse, and a wall of gifts made from stones gifted to His Majesty and the Wood Nymph, 'Goddess of the Wood.' The mural showcases the design with a grass-cloth texture at full scale to give the feel of an all-encompassing scenic tapestry when hung. Mural on a Roll comprises four 3m (3.28 yards) panels with space in between for cutting.
