Combat on foot between contestants separated by a waist-height barrier was a popular sport in European courts during the 16th and 17th centuries. Our Saxony products are inspired by the patterning on combat armor commissioned for Christian I of Augsburg during the 16th Century. The gilded adornments cover the breastplate and additional detailed areas to give the work a sense of craftsmanship and regal delicacy. The design is embroidered on linen and cotton fabric to emulate the decorative ironwork pattern of the armor's breastplate. The fabric is paperbacked for the wall and its dimensional stitching evokes a sense of delicacy, which juxtaposes the inspirational iron artifact itself. This stately wallcovering would make a memorable grand foyer or an elegant dining room and coordinate with Saxony Embellished Tape.
