To that end, the Smithfield family was named for the Smithfield Market in London, where the artist was inspired by the industrial nature of the fixtures he saw. “I’ve always liked the industrial and functional character of these lights,” he says. “I wanted to make a project out of them, looking for some way of making use of their efficiency in delivering light, and the forms themselves which are so much a part of the good atmosphere of industrial spaces.”
