While most match pieces are cast, these small treasures are spun from two discs of pewter, one for the body and another for the base. Spinning is a process by which a disc of pewter is rotated at high speed and formed into an asymmetrical shape. A high degree of skill is required to smoothly shape the final contours and details. The base is formed in a similar manner and joined to the body by soldering.

The Plait vases have organic forms that are achieved by hand manipulation. They are made with reactive glazes in a green undertone with a metallic sheen. The result is a very layered and rich color.
We believe every home should have a collection of vases in different sizes and heights. It’s a wonderful container for sunflowers (shown here) but also as a vessel for a cactus, topiary or foliage that doesn’t require drainage (we do recommend inserting a plastic liner before using as a planter).
