The House of Scalamandre
Originally designed in the 1940s for Gino of Capri restaurant, lovingly known as "Gino’s" by New Yorkers, Scalamandré restored the Zebras wallcovering in this Upper East Side institution in the 1970s after it was destroyed in a fire. Flora Scalamandré, a wife of Franco Scalamandré, freehanded the signature motif that would come to be known as the iconic Scalamandré Zebras design. Zebras feature an animated sketch of two Zebras prancing around politely placed arrows on top of a lively colored wallpaper. This playful design was an instant hit, quickly entering the line, and was soon after immortalized in films such as Wes Anderson’s "The Royal Tenenbaums” and Woody Allen’s "Mighty Aphrodite.” Zebras also made guest appearances across the country in Kate Spade and Barneys New York retail installations. Since then, the Zebras design has grown in the color offering, has expanded to fabric for both indoor and outdoor, and is available on various grounds such as vinyl wallcovering and grasscloth. Zebras have proven to be an industry favorite and beyond as it remains highly used, and highly recognized across the world.

Modern rustic! Took my expensive traditional dining room table & made it work in our Montana Lodge.. Tamra. Troy, MT. 2023-08-10 23:54:55
The long-standing Scalamandré classic makes a statement in both traditional and modern interiors. Leopardo’s graphic leopard skin pattern layers beautifully against a woven ombre of color, adding depth and richness to the leopard spine. This dense, luxurious velvet is made in the USA by expert weavers.
I love the fabric, I reupholstered two chairs and they look magnificent.. Anonymous. . 2024-02-13 14:40:04
Our menagerie of wild animal patterns became more unexpected when we tied with Stark carpet to introduce the Antelope pattern as a cut velvet.
Hartig takes the Tibetan tiger motif and recasts it as a multi-dimensional stripe on a lush velvet that slips easily into a range of schemes—elegant to eclectic and everything in between, this is absolutely one of a kind.
Our most iconic pattern gets a refresh with the Zebras petite. Scaled down from the size of the wallcovering, the petite Zebras dance across a polished cotton sateen. The Zebras may be smaller, but they make for a graphic pop as statement drapes or memorable accent chairs. Colorways coordinate with Zebras wallcovering and Zebras embroidered tape.
A luxe single showered in a chic leopard pattern, this fabric is equal parts durable and divine.

The "Cheetah Kings" design is made up solely of two King Cheetah who dance across the fabric with entwined tails. The design focuses on the exotic spots and stripes of this elusive cat, who exists but is rarely ever seen. We associate this cheetah with myth and folklore because it appears sensuous and elegant in one's dreams!
