The House of Scalamandre
Originally designed in the 1940s for Gino of Capri restaurant, lovingly known as "Gino’s" by New Yorkers, Scalamandré restored the Zebras wallcovering in this Upper East Side institution in the 1970s after it was destroyed in a fire. Flora Scalamandré, a wife of Franco Scalamandré, freehanded the signature motif that would come to be known as the iconic Scalamandré Zebras design. Zebras feature an animated sketch of two Zebras prancing around politely placed arrows on top of a lively colored wallpaper. This playful design was an instant hit, quickly entering the line, and was soon after immortalized in films such as Wes Anderson’s "The Royal Tenenbaums” and Woody Allen’s "Mighty Aphrodite.” Zebras also made guest appearances across the country in Kate Spade and Barneys New York retail installations. Since then, the Zebras design has grown in the color offering, has expanded to fabric for both indoor and outdoor, and is available on various grounds such as vinyl wallcovering and grasscloth. Zebras have proven to be an industry favorite and beyond as it remains highly used, and highly recognized across the world.
Can’t wait to see the chair covered in this beautiful fabric.. Rosanne. Holladay, UT. 2023-03-20 14:15:48
One of Scalamandré’s timeless signature patterns, Zebra features a graphic full-width zebra skin pattern on luxuriously dense linen ground. Three new colorations, all on white grounds, join the classic Black: soft neutral shades of Zinc and Sahara, and a bold new Navy. The dramatic scale lends itself perfectly to tailored upholstery and floor-length draperies.
Leaping Cheetah fabric is a signature pattern featuring cheetahs at play against a saturated backdrop. This fabric is digitally printed in Italy on a 100% cotton sateen weave, which gives the surface a subtle sheen. The large-scale design is perfect for statement drapery, a chic upholstered headboard, or an occasional chair. Leaping Cheetah is a memorable design that comes in bold, fashion-inspired colorways and is offered in a coordinating wallcovering.

The long-standing Scalamandré classic makes a statement in both traditional and modern interiors. Leopardo’s graphic leopard skin pattern layers beautifully against a woven ombre of color, adding depth and richness to the leopard spine. This dense, luxurious velvet is made in the USA by expert weavers.
I love the fabric, I reupholstered two chairs and they look magnificent.. Anonymous. . 2024-02-13 14:40:04
Our most iconic pattern gets a refresh with the Zebras petite. Scaled down from the size of the wallcovering, the petite Zebras dance across a polished cotton sateen. The Zebras may be smaller, but they make for a graphic pop as statement drapes or memorable accent chairs. Colorways coordinate with Zebras wallcovering and Zebras embroidered tape.
This captivating collection, created in collaboration with The Met, draws on artworks and objects from across nine of The Met’s 17 curatorial departments to create a rich mosaic of historical narratives. Each design is a celebration of artisanship, inspired by exquisite forms and cultural traditions. Following our first collaboration with The Met in the 1970s, we bring museum magic into the home once again in homage to history and the grand beauty of art.

Originally designed for carpet and introduced by Stark Carpet in 1970, Antelope has come a long way! Instantly adored, the Antelope design was adapted into a coordinating fabric and introduced into the Old World Weavers line in 2013. Perfecting its construction, Antelope is made in Belgium and has a lush, all-velvet pile. Offered in natural colorways as well as a refreshed and bold assortment of colors, the design beautifully mimics the organic markings of an Antelope and will forever be an industry favorite!
