Artist and scholar. Pioneer and griot. Katherine Dunham is at once one of the greatest exponents of dance culture in the African Diaspora and one of its most groundbreaking ethnographers. Much as a fellow legend, academic, and pioneer, Pearl Primus did with dance on the African continent, Dunham explored the Caribbean and North America, cataloging the stories and dances of the people, exploring and sharing the diverse expanse of black experiences, and showing how dance could be a political force. This pattern, created in collaboration with Kim Johnson Studios, celebrates that shining legacy with a colorful play of florals and dancers. Cast in dynamic and exuberant postures, our watercolor dancers show the energy and life that characterized Katherine Dunham’s career, and that continues to inspire us to this day.

The House of Scalamandre
The classic English menswear fabric gets an update in this exceptionally soft yet tailored weave, which is woven in Italy. Composed of natural flax yarns that are crossed with velvety viscose chenille, the mix of brilliant color and quiet greige-hued linen has a heathery appearance and a casual, modern sensibility. Twenty-five shades offer a full range of colors, perfect for creating both timeless and fashionable interiors. Durable for use on tightly upholstered chairs, sofas and sectionals, headboards, and also with enough drape for curtains, Oxford Herringbone is an extremely versatile companion, a great textured layer for both patterns and plains.
Scalamandré is a heritage American textile brand rooted in luxury and high-end design since its inception in 1929. A dobby weave with the look of delicate embroidery, New Traditional III Barlow 100% Cotton Fabric is actually a sturdy, upholstery-weight fabric. Its lovely, diminutive pattern has an irregular, handstitched look. Part of our New Traditional III collection.
This classic trellis pattern is woven with a pocket construction that gives the design a dimensional quilted appearance. The allover design is a wonderful small-scale option for layering a bit of pattern into a modern or traditional setting as upholstery or pillows.
