Morris & Co.
Bursts of vivid multicolor please the eye at every turn in this newly embroidered fabric version of Morris & Co.’s earliest fabric (1864), a daisy. Hand-knotted finishes to the floral detailing coupled with chunky stitching help to convey a crafted, tactile feel on a 100% linen base cloth. What makes daisies so iconic are the sprays of floral miniatures inspired by William Morris’s visits to the British Museum’s illuminated manuscripts, creating a design that looks back on centuries of craftwork. Today’s daisy embroidery takes as its source the daisy fabric featured in the Arts & Crafts home of noted typographer, book printer, and friend of Morris, Sir Emery Walker.
Harlequin
Charming daisies, picked from the garden, link together to create this pretty trellis fabric. Hand-painted in the Harlequin studio, each delicate flower is beautifully detailed and printed onto upholstery-weight cotton.
It’s 1864 and our dainty, daisy-strewn design has just been created. Igniting the interest of tastemakers and London’s elite, this was the first William Morris wallpaper to ever be sold. Originally inspired by the jewel colors of a c.1470 French wall hanging, delicate sprigs have been translated with grace and ease into this charmingly simple cotton.
Deco flower embroidery in multi is a lovely loose floral design inspired by a hand-embroidered documentary fabric in our archive. This artful large-scale allover pattern, colorfully stitched on a cotton ground, has wonderful movement and texture, making it perfect for windows, upholstery, or pillows.
