Philippe Starck, the world-famous creator with multifaceted inventiveness, is always focused on the essential, his vision: That creation, whatever form it takes, must improve the lives of as many people as possible. This philosophy has made him one of the pioneers and central figures of the concept of democratic design.

The significance of ships and boats has always been present in Bertil Vallien’s life and work. Like an imaginary space, he has journeyed through the glass. He sails his boat, seeing men fishing and refugees fleeing for their lives. The similarity of the boat to a seed pod, which could contain any form of life, is intriguing. Bertil captures our curiosity, and if we give the sculpture some time, he makes us participants in the unknown journey that life presents. Fortress Vessel is part of Bertil Vallien’s anniversary collection, “Bertil Vallien: 60 Years with Kosta Boda” (1963–2023), and is handmade at Kosta Glassworks in Sweden with details in real 21-karat gold.

Shrinathji is a manifestation of Krishna, one of India's most venerated deities, incarnated in a seven-year-old boy. Shrinathji is a grace-filled divinity, the balanced abode of contradictions. He is a child, yet he supports the world. He is both pond and lotus, he is all things at once. Exquisitely faithful to traditional iconography, this majestic depiction in porcelain stands out for its sumptuous decoration and also for the dazzling ornamental wealth of a god who represents pure bliss. A wide range of finishes were used in making this impressive sculpture, including the combination of matte and glazed porcelain with enamels, and different coatings of golden luster and metallic tones. The intense saffron color of the clothing symbolizes happiness and success. In addition, it is richly decorated with jewelry hand-painted in bright greens and blues, and with a splendid garland of white flowers, modeled petal by petal by Lladro artists.
She was five or six years old. On one of her solo walks in the woods, she found herself in a pit among newly hatched snakes. Fearless and curious, she sat down - Ulrica once told us this herself - and her mother finally found her lost little girl. The snakes were Ulrica's first friends. In her artistry, she continued to spend time with snakes throughout her life. Drawn, painted, shaped in clay, or as seen here: meandering and shiny in clear glass that is painted gold. Her snakes have adorned countless vases, plates, and bowls over the years. She releases them into the wild, in all of their elegance and heavenly playfulness. In Ulrica's spirit, this rare and beautiful object aims to remind us of our solidarity with animals and nature.

Whimsical sculpture of a labrador smoking a cigar.
This version of The Guest is signed by Kzeng Jiang, the first artist of Chinese origin to join the creative universe of this iconic character. A creative based in Shanghai, his work captures the contemporary culture of the East through vibrant and radical illustrations. Kzeng seeks to capture his cultural roots through the symbolism of traditions such as Chinese face painting or Song dynasty flowers. Elements that he reinterprets under his prism and that in this case are represented, for example, with three large eyes on the face that, according to the author, "allows him to see, past, present and future as if he were a messenger traveling through time". At the chromatic level, Kzeng resorts to blues on white porcelain to achieve visual harmony and balance. Colors that he combines with golden luster strokes to create that sense of prestige that was so typical of ancient Chinese porcelain. The result is a creation that conveys the elegance of porcelain and is an example of the most conceptual and contemporary design.
As a sculptor, Bertil Vallien has transformed Michelangelo’s marble block into a transparent glass cube. They have the same eye as artists: A hidden secret is sealed inside the glass and marble, which they have made their mission to find and reveal. Over the years, Bertil’s cubes have come to represent one of his most captivating worlds. Large and small, an abode for a head or a body, and sometimes simply – as is the case here – a foundation for a house, a home. Fortress Cube is part of Bertil Vallien’s anniversary collection, “Bertil Vallien: 60 Years with Kosta Boda” (1963–2023), and is handmade at Kosta Glassworks in Sweden with details in real 21-karat gold.
