The Atlas screen is a decorative room screen made of chamcha wood ornamented with a whimsical metal figure in a bronze finish. Because this piece is crafted from natural solid wood, color and woodgrain character may vary, adding a unique personality to your piece. The Atlas collection, which reflects the ethos that Phillips Collection personifies—modern organic—has a storied namesake. In Greek mythology, Atlas was the Titan god of endurance whom Zeus tasked with holding up the celestial heavens for eternity. With this screen, we’ve taken a piece of chamcha wood that would have been one of nature’s castaways and made it into an elemental design statement that will be a textural accent in any room.

Our sculpture is made from a lost-wax technique when boiling bronze is poured into a mold covering an original wax sculpture that melts away. Once set, there is a very long process of refining the bronze to give it patina. This is among our bronze art pieces created by an unknown artist. We love her femininity.

Michael Aram
The Black Iris collection is inspired by the vitality and beauty of the iris flower. Named after the Greek word for rainbow, the idea of a "black rainbow" feels oxymoronic and mysterious. Michael Aram uses contrasting oxidized and polished brass, as his way of doubting the question of whether there is such a thing as an iris that is truly black. "I am fascinated with the beauty and mystery of black irises. They are symbolic of wisdom, courage, and admiration. Given as gifts, they convey deep sentiments."
