LIULI Crystal Art
Made in the shape of an ancient Chinese gold ingot, this tabletop ornament symbolizes good luck in wealth and fortune. Crafted with precision, the piece utilizes an auspicious and culturally traditional shape with a loose-set crystal ball to bring good balance in life.---------------------Founded in 1987 by studio glass artists Loretta H. Yang and Chang Yi, LIULI has grown from a modest workshop in Taiwan to Asia’s leading crystal art brand. Liuli is the phonetic spelling of the Han Dynasty term for glass art and is used to honor the Chinese heritage and culture. Records show that thousands of years ago, the Chinese were highly skilled in pâte de verre a.k.a lost wax casting but the craft was subsequently forgotten. Yang and Chang revived the craft and reintroduced it into the international arena.Today, LIULI has 41 galleries worldwide, and Loretta’s and Chang Yi’s artworks are collected at more than 35 museums around the world. These include the Victoria and Albert museum in London, the Corning Museum of Glass in New York, The National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington D.C., and the Bowers Museum in Orange County. LIULI has received multiple awards, some of which are iF Design and German Red Dot.---------------------Lawrence & Scott is an authorized LIULI Crystal Art showroom. We do not accept offers for LIULI Crystal Art pieces.

LIULI pays homage to resilience and courage in this crystal camellia flower artwork—a flower that blooms in the winter and is adored by the Chinese for its remarkable ability to fare through the winter. In this art piece, a flower and vase are juxtaposed to represent the camellia and a full moon reflected in a pool. Subtle touches like the amber lighting of the flower hint at the interwoven bond that it has with the beloved full moon. On the shores of a pool beside that soft moonlit flowerbed, one can truly look within and up into the universe in the same breath. Meticulous in every aspect of its design, Destined Harmony is a glass piece that adds a symbolic and deeply meaningful touch to any surface—coffee table or desk—and makes for thought-invoking conversation starters. View the self through flowers, view the world through a vase. Through the camellia’s fearlessness in winter, we are shown courage. In the Earth series, Bertil Vallien has created four different globes, each with its own characteristic houses and message. Their names—My Garden, Home, Winter Garden and Lonely House—tell a bit about the history of each globe and Vallien's ideas behind the series. Each globe is hand-made with great care, and makes a perfect, very personal gift.
The Qilin represents the element earth and the central position, and is frequently depicted in yellow; hence it is also known as the Golden Qilin. The lifespan of this mythical creature is said to be two thousand years. The male is called qi, and the female lin; both are a composite of a deer, horse, cow, and fish. The Qilin is noted for its gentle disposition, and is so benevolent that it carefully avoids treading on greenery of any kind. A traditional symbol of prosperity, the Qilin is said to bring bumper crops and progeny. The Qilin in this piece is embedded within a hollow sphere representing the universe, and is depicted leaping out of the water, with its bushy mane flying in the wind. It’s resolute expression and dynamic posture exude confidence and strength.Associated with the four quadrants of the vault of heaven are the Azure Dragon of the East, the Vermillion Bird of the South, the White Tiger of the West, and the Black Tortoise of the North; in the center is the Qilin (unicorn). Each region corresponds to one of the five elements: metal (west), wood (east), water (north), fire (south), and earth (center). Moving across the night sky, the stars connect all life to the five elements. When the universe and elements are aligned, harmony ensues.

Azure Dragon represents the element wood, the eastern direction, the spring season. East is where the Sun rises, therefore dragon epitomizes rising to eminence, and the ability to readily grasp the overall situation. The dragon’s body progressively loops from front to back, creating a sense of interlaced time and space. Gripped in the dragon’s hand are the sun, an object of worship since ancient times, and a traditional symbol of peace, longevity, and well-being. Superimposed on the dragon is a swirling auspicious Ruyi cloud, representing good luck and prosperity. forming a distinctive contrast with the detailed representation of the dragon itself. Associated with the four quadrants of the vault of heaven is the Azure Dragon of the East, the Vermillion Bird of the South, the White Tiger of the West, and the Black Tortoise of the North; in the center is the Qilin (unicorn). Each region corresponds to one of the five elements: metal (west), wood (east), water (north), fire (south), and earth (center).
