First off, the rack is fully assembled out of the box. It looks fantastic. This shelf is exactly what we needed in our carport hallway to hang coats on. The mounting board is easy to detach and mount. I aligned it with two studs and tapped my own hole to secure it in the third stud. I used 3” wood construction screws instead of the enclosed wood screws. Pre-drill pilot holes into the studs so you do not split the stud behind the wall. I bought this for the aesthetics, and I got what I was looking for - it's a beautiful & elegant coat hanger, looks great! If you're considering this coat rack you should also be aware that the good looks come with a small cost to function. The coat pegs themselves are a little stubbier than I'd like. But mainly, the fact that the front of the rack is covered means that you have to hang your coats by lifting them up INTO the rack from the bottom. This can mean that you sometimes end up pushing the entire coat rack up from its attachment to the wall if you're clumsy, which can feel the opposite of elegant and refined.
