Fascination with a particular type of ginkgo tree, which grows with a double leaf reminiscent of a butterfly's wings, gave rise to a fantasia image of the plant. "The first time I saw this tree, it literally looked like it had been completely overtaken by butterflies as if they would all take flight the moment I walked too close or made a noise. The bottle rack “Barkcellar” is the result of a collection designed by Michael Boucquillon and Donia Maaoui inspiered by the trees that surround their house in Lucca. Produced at the factory in Crusinallo, Omegna, the bottle rack in the “Bark” range demonstrates, like the other objects in this collection, Alessi’s skill in processing steel. Through subsequent processing stages, the metal sheet is cut, laser perforated, bent and lastly welded, so as to obtain the organic and sinuous shape drawn by the designers. This manufacturing expertise makes it possible to use steel to create an object onto which an organic and natural memory has been impressed. This is an object with an expressive design, an item of interior furnishing capable of enhancing the value of its setting wherever it is used.
