• Glass characteristics: Production: Juliska glass is mouth-blown by artisans. The techniques they use have been passed down through generations of skilled glassmakers. Working in teams of two and three, these artisans have perfected a seamless sequence of motions to create the finished pieces.
• Pontil: The iron rod tipped with a wad of hot glass, then applied to the base of a vessel to hold it during manufacture. It often leaves an irregular or ring-shaped scar (called a pontil mark) on the base when the pontil is removed It is seen in nearly all glasses made before the nineteenth century, when glass-makers began to erase it.
