The Crown II. From the artist: “Hold your head up; be proud of who you have become as you have walked through life. Never hide the value you have earned with your effort and hard work. Your most important accomplishments aren’t meant to be seen from the outside; they were achieved inside and belong to you alone; but the effortless elegance with which you carry yourself reveals your crown to everyone, so wear it with pride.” An enduring celebration of the triumph of womanhood, beautifully wrought in shades of yellow and blue, this entrancing work of surrealist fine art photography by Fares Micue exclusively for AphroChic, is a limited edition work, printed on high-quality Canson or Hahnemühle paper. This striking tribute to feminine beauty is the perfect choice for adding a sense of fantasy or depth of story to any room.

Ikat is one of the world’s oldest textile weaving techniques, developing independently within several cultures around the world, from South America to Southeast Asia, Eastern Europe, India, and West Africa. Haze draws from many of these traditions while maintaining the distinctive blurred effect that many of them share.

Originating in the South, the tradition was adopted as a way of demonstrating commitment between enslaved African Americans for whom the institution and rites of marriage were forbidden. This pattern is a modern take on that ancient pattern, named for the Spanish river that fed water to the Alhambra palace in Granada. The spectacular star-shaped ceilings that define that iconic stronghold are the inspiration for this pattern.

Artist and scholar. Pioneer and griot. Katherine Dunham is at once one of the greatest exponents of dance culture in the African Diaspora and one of its most groundbreaking ethnographers. Much as a fellow legend, academic, and pioneer, Pearl Primus did with dance on the African continent, Dunham explored the Caribbean and North America, cataloging the stories and dances of the people, exploring and sharing the diverse expanse of black experiences, and showing how dance could be a political force. This pattern, created in collaboration with Kim Johnson Studios, celebrates that shining legacy with a colorful play of florals and dancers. Cast in dynamic and exuberant postures, our watercolor dancers show the energy and life that characterized Katherine Dunham’s career, and that continues to inspire us to this day.

This pattern is an ode to the women of the African Diaspora, inspired by the textile weavers of Rwanda. Illustrated in watercolor by artist, Samantha Hahn, the women are presented here in a striking cameo, face-to-face, in a moment of recognition and community. This pattern was developed as AphroChic was creating the first concept house exhibit ever designed by African Americans on the west coast. As part of the exhibit, AphroChic worked with a women's collective in Rwanda on a series of baskets for the space. The design was also heavily influenced by the Bring Back Our Girls movement in Nigeria. A percentage of the proceeds from every sale of this pattern will go to supporting the education of women and girls in Rwanda.

Inspired by the beauty and legacy of Marrakech, AphroChic has collaborated with Moroccan lighting brand, Dounia Home, to create the Amur collection, AphroChic’s first foray into luxury lighting. Handmade in Morocco, this collection blends the centuries-old technique of creating pierced metal lanterns with modern lighting aesthetics to offer a floor lamp, table lamp, sconce, and chandelier. The perforated globes allow precision control of the amount of light in a space, while the various designs are created to work together to create sophisticated layers of pattern and texture within a space. This collection is the perfect way to add a handmade touch of this ancient city to your home – with an AphroChic twist.
