• Cutting: Use a miter saw/chop saw to cut material.
• Style: Farmhouse.
• Substrate: Before you start tiling, make sure that the surface on which the tiles are being installed is strong and structurally sound. Cement board, concrete, or drywall is best, as these surfaces can handle the moisture of the tiling process. Plywood should be avoided, as it will warp with the added moisture and become less waterproof, even after tiling.
• Installation: Using a trowel, apply a thick quantity of adhesive above the chalk line, and using the straight edge of the trowel, smooth across the application surface to a final thickness of approximately ¼". The adhesive should be applied in small quantities so that you can place the material before the adhesive sets. Run the notched (jagged) edge of the trowel across the adhesive to create ridges across the surface. Place the initial tile with the bottom edge flush with a level guide, pressing firmly into the adhesive. Use a pin nailer to nail the tile into place so it cannot sag while the adhesive dries. Interlock consecutive tiles into place on the wall, pressing each piece firmly against an adhesive surface and adjoining tiles to minimize gaps. Repeat step 4 across the complete wall (applying additional adhesive per step 2 as needed) making sure that each piece stays flush with a level guide. Repeat steps 4-5 for all consecutive rows until no additional full tiles can be placed on the wall. Finish the top and/or bottom edges. Measure the distance between the edge and the last complete row. Cut tiles to this width (note, that if your edges are not straight, you may have to custom-cut pieces to fit) and then adhere them to the cut tiles. Finishing sides. Measure the distance between tiles and the edge of the wall for each row. Cut individual tiles to fit these distances and then adhere.
