This wondrous, mystical hand-carved sese wood mask comes from the Nyadedzor workshop. With a round face, half-closed eyes, and an open mouth, the mask bears the name Nkunim, meaning ''to succeed''. The piece is adorned with beautiful designs as well as aluminum plates, and it is provided with a coat of potassium for protection and finished for an antique appearance.

Hand-carved by Salihu Ibrahim, a bold personage represents a female spirit of war. Carved from sese wood, this rugged African mask comes from the Dan people who inhabit the mountainous regions of the ivory coast. It is thought to protect warriors in battle.

Ornate shapes are covered with handcrafted repose in a mask of opulent beauty. By Robert Nortey, it combines African sese wood with aluminum for an original design with Ghanaian influence. He names it Hewale Tse, a Ga word meaning "strong man."

The artisan of Ghana presents this ntomo mask, used for coming-of-age ceremonies in the Bambara tribe of Mali. Hand-carved from sese wood, the mask features antelope-like horns, a common feature in Bambara masks due to the tribe's close connection with the land. A human figure kneels between the horns at the top of the mask.

Angel Cerón creates an original mask that blends elements of both Maya and Aztec art and culture. The face depicts the Sun Jaguar of the underworld seen in an incense burner from the Classic Maya site of Palenque. The mouth makes reference to Chac, the Maya rain god. Covered with skulls, the headdress is an interpretation of the Aztec zompantli, a rack where the heads of sacrificial victims were displayed as an offering to the gods.

A bird perches atop this mask and leans forward to caress its beak on the headdress. Adorned with polished brass and aluminum repousse, this mask is the artisan's own original design. He names it Looflo, which means "flying bird" in Ghana's Ga language.
