Our Coluna Kiddush Cup is for people who love modern design, and tradition. Crafted from Italian Carrara marble and stainless steel, our kiddush cup was designed to be passed from generation to generation, bringing light and joy to Shabbat and holidays. We obsessed over every detail, from determining the correct volume of the cup (derived from the shulchan aruch, which specifies that a kiddush cup must hold at least a revi'It - 3-5 ounces - ours is over 6), to the precise diameter of the plate beneath, so no wine spills on the table.

The Twist collection is inspired by the idea that the whole can be far greater than the sum of its parts. When elements are combined, they take on another feeling, greatness. Together, they are strong, but also I would argue, more beautiful. When lines are repeated, or wires are woven, there is a loveliness to the pattern that fascinates and pleases. Asymmetry is created that is calming and classical. "I often explore materials and create collections that are craft-based. The Twist was created while experimenting with intertwining wires. There is a fluidity and movement to the twists that I love. The twisted wires suggest a coming together of things that I find poetic."

The Olive Branch collection is one of the best-known and most loved of Michael's motifs. The simple forms create objects that serve wonderfully as stunning individual gifts or an exuberant table setting that decorates an entire moment of your life. The theme itself captures all the most distinctive aspects of Michael's work-narrative strength, deep symbolism, and extraordinary sculptural expression. The olive branch has always held a powerful meaning for me representing both peace and victory. In designing functional objects with natural forms, there is a mingled sense of fragility and intensity. For me, it is like nature spreading through my interior spaces like a magical olive grove sweetly willing its way into my home.

The Tree of Life collection takes its inspiration from the imagery that floats around classic storytelling. Whether the objects are seen individually or grouped together, they evoke a sense of charm and fantasy. Drawing profoundly from Michael's background as a sculptor, each piece emerges from hand-sculpted clay and offers a child-like quality with an inherent depth of meaning. There is such power in narrative images for me. There is a feeling that we're creating an entire imaginary world, building designs around interactive themes that are familiar to all of us. The shapes are obvious and immediate and, at the same time, the impressionistic and lyrical way a small child might imagine the scenes in a story he's being told. The image of the Tree of Life is one of my favorites. It is an idea that is so widely expressed in all cultures and by all religions that it becomes a universal symbol of hope.

Judaica comes from Michael's fascination with objects of ritual. Regardless of the faith with which they are connected, they are imbued with profound energy and meaning that holds a very special place for Michael Aram. Whether it is a unique object or derived from a motif with a broad collection, each piece is created with a particular sense of reverence and care in both the function and the design. "This is such a fun object! It suggests its function through its form. A matzah, matzah plate...I do that a lot and it always strikes me with such a sense of whimsy and surprise. The surface texture of the matzah, when it is interpreted in cast metal, also creates an unexpected beauty. I love that it comes with a bag for hiding so it creates a ritual for kids and a special memory of family events."
