Hand-knotted in wool and originating from Morocco circa 1950-1960, this 4x5 vintage rug is a rare and among the most exciting new additions to Rug & Kilim’s mid-century curations from the region. On the Design: This vintage Moroccan rug radiates with the soulful intricacy of Berber artistry with its earthy palette and primitive geometry. In the center, diamonds and other geometric tribal motifs have been etched in brown tones atop a beige field with accents of bright pink, blue, and green hues. The thick border in deep brown is adorned with repeating botanical shapes, offering both frame and contrast to the ethereal interior. Though modest in tone, the rug’s quiet complexity and irregular detailing speak to the hands that made it. The asymmetry, the charming imperfections, the play of colors—all reveal the story of a weaver’s memory, intuition, and tradition. Altogether, it’s a gorgeous masterpiece of the primitivist Berber tradition, and an exemplar of nomadic folk art as well. Condition: This vintage Moroccan rug further enjoys good condition for its age and origin.
